OUR HISTORY
Founded in 1852 (as W.R. Adamson & Co.) in Shanghai, the firm evolved into Dodwell & Co. under George Dodwell’s leadership in 1891. From silk and tea exports, it grew into a commercial giant, with offices stretching from Yokohama to Colombo to San Francisco.
Dodwell was also a coal trader, shipping from Japan to Singapore and Shanghai in the early 20th century. Its revival in the 21st century by the Carter Family Office marks the return of a great merchant name to its coal roots. The current HQ of Dodwell & Co. is Tbilisi, Georgia and we have plans to open an office in Singapore.
